Our first true home made sausage is a
pork/beef mix, using Weeping Radish Beer as part of the sausage
making process (we trust the beer makes
it into the sausage rather
than being consumed by the sausage maker)!
Weeping Radish embodies many ideals, but perhaps the strongest
is entrepreneurship and the importance of new beginnings.
Twenty-four years ago, Uli Bennewitz broke the mold, and the
law, when he built the first Weeping Radish Brewery in Manteo.
That small brewery was the beginning of the micro brewing boom
that has spread through North Carolina. In 2000 Uli took the
first tentative steps to building an "Eco-Brewery" that focused
on reusing materials and energy and celebrating artisan crafts.
Today the Weeping Radish Farm Brewery in Jarvisburg, North
Carolina stands in front of fourteen acres of organic farm land
and produces barrels of Reinheitsgebot beer and all natural
sausages made by a German Master Butcher.
But just because Uli isn't in the restaurant business anymore
don't think he's disappeared! He and his family have refocused
their efforts on the brewery and the butchery. Weeping Radish
beer is widely distributed in Outer Banks and Tidewater,
Virginia areas and the sausages are sold in farmer's markets
from Virginia Beach to Charlotte, North Carolina.
